(In what era did humanity ever come to assume they know every secret of the spirit world? The tradition of religious sacrifice never made much sense to me. If spirits are immaterial, what need have they of corruptible material goods? If they are all powerful and pervasive, what need have they for mortal servants? This is not a song about sacrifice or ritual, but about recognition: a recognition of the spiritual that comes from deep thought, introspection, and self-realization.)
